答：光照是包括水草在内所有绿色植物赖以维生的最基本条件，因此水草缸必须使用灯光照明。太阳光对于养植水草来说是不适合的，容易生藻并且不可控，会使养草受到很大局限，并且观赏效果也差。

答：目前流行的计算方法是W/L，即根据缸体的大小来计算灯具的耗电量。对于阴性草来说，一般0.3~0.7W/L，阳性草则是0.7W/L以上（阴性草阳性草的区别见后）。这种计算方法不是完美的，但是对于尺寸“规矩”的缸有一定参考性。一般来说，这个规矩是，高度和宽度在0.4~0.6米之间，长度0.6~1.5米之间。太大和太小的缸都不适合这种计算方法~成品缸里的灯大多数是不行的，除了照明功率普遍不足外，灯管发出的光也不适合水草生长。
